I am the leper who didn’t say thank you

I wish I was the one who remembered to come back to Jesus.

1/10 grateful people is a measly return - it seems my ungratefulness is in abundant company. This is sad rather than comforting.

Perhaps some were in a rush to get back to family and work and completely forgot about the obscure teacher they’d hailed down for help.

Perhaps due to shame some wanted to simply leave everything to do with that life behind now that they were ‘better’.

Whatever the reason for those who did not return, I do know Jesus considered it notable that the double outcast took time to express gratitude.

Perhaps he didn’t actually have anything to return to and being with Jesus was his best bet.

I wonder what I hold tighter than Jesus.

Or maybe he had just been through so much in life he knew the value of taking a minute, letting go of all that was to come, and celebrating the miracle of the moment.

Lord. Make me into the healed leper who returns to say thank you.

I am grateful, please help my ungratefulness.
